To Paint or not to Paint- Shiny New Steps

I held off painting my back porch steps for years. I loved the texture of the flagstone, but they didn’t really go with the style of the house. After putting drought tolerant landscaping in, the steps sort of just felt even more blah against the gravel.

As the painters put the finishing touches on our new paint job, I decided the steps would go dark. This brings the outside in, and makes for a very well-rounded style inside and out.
Now all exterior doors and steps look very modern in a glossy black. The family room leading out to these steps has a black tile fireplace hearth. Now this is tied into our style as well. Consider what you have and make inexpensive upgrades to make everything compliment each other. This adds resale value quickly and gives you the most return on your cash.
