Before and After my Bathroom

Before and after.
I can’t believe I lived with that bathroom for so long. I think it was over 2 years after we moved in and I still have to remove the old gross shower door for a new one. But the new look makes this little bathroom look glamorous while really increasing resell value.
Win-win situation.

I’m not sure if the old sink or the old floor was worse. To save on cost I kept the old counter top, it matched the shower tile. To cover the sink hole I found the biggest top mounted sink out there from Overstock.com. The counter is wide enough for two sinks, but I don’t want two sinks to clean. So one wide sink balances the proportions.

Vote for the ugliest vinyl floor goes to my “Before” bathroom. I had it covered with new board and oversized grey tile. The tile looks like concrete in 2×2 foot squares. The bigger tiles in a small space makes for fewer grout lines. Fewer grout lines means easier floor to clean and fewer lines to distract from a small space and minimal style.

The goal of this bathroom before and after was to increase my home’s value without a complete wall to wall overhaul. $10k+ can go faster than you think even in a small bathroom when you replace everything. So I had to be smart about what stayed and what went. For this Before and After I spent approximately $2k in materials and labor.
I saved $1k installing the tile, plumbing, toilet, and paint myself with my mom and handy step-dad.
What I kept:
-counter top
-shower tile
-vanity base and knobs
-shower tile

What I removed or replaced:
-wall to wall mirror (to be reused in foyer)
-towel racks
-sink
-floor
-toilet with a
Dual flush
-textured window glass with clear glass
(more light and now a pretty view of treetops & sky)
-paint
