Balboa Island Newport Get Away

Balboa Island is prime waterfront real estate. Most houses are year round vacation rentals in Newport that are weekly rentals or monthly rentals. My family rented this beach house, 331 Crystal Ave, to celebrate my mom’s promotion at work. This Balboa Island rental has the perfect mix of styles and full of easy beach house decor ideas you can try at home.

This sleek pair of 1950’s -1960’s vintage lamps caught my eye right away. They are all about playing with proportion in the room. How to use vintage lamps in a modern room? Add new matching shades and new fluer de lis finials to top them off.

How to mix styles? Even though this mosaic rug is a different style than the bamboo and embossed tin headboard, the two styles work to repeat the circular pattern across the two rooms. Fight the impulse to be too matchy matchy with your decorating. A mosaic rug under a patterned bed would kill the room with business. Instead, spread the pattern out and see how it ties the sitting room in with bedroom.

How to make a small room feel bigger? Fill it carefully with prints and colors that play off of each other. I really like how brown, white, and blue fill this small white room with color without overwhelming it. The lampshades match each other for balance but don’t match the pillow, keeping the room fresh. Using flea market finds or family heirlooms on the wall for the perfect mix of styles.

How to tie a whole house together? Use shades of the same color in every room. Sticking with one palette may seem restricting at first, but it makes your space feel so pulled together. You’ll be asking yourself why your space feels so much bigger just by using this decorator’s secret weapon.
